It said we can use sunglasses, smoked glass, X-ray film, photographic film or negatives as solar filters. Any astronomer knows that none of the above are safe to look at the sun with.

We risk the indifference of others when we marvel at ordinary celestial events
We suffer ridicule when we revel at a seemingly banal night sky
We endure mockery when we find magic in the most mundane of things - a clear moonless night, a setting sun perhaps, a shooting star so fleeting and feeble.

There will be a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse tonight. Unfortunately it will be very difficult to see because it will still be twilight as the earth's penumbra is moving out of the moon.

Eclipses usually come in pairs, with a solar and lunar eclipse occurring two weeks apart when the earth is at an eclipse node. Unfortunately the eclipse is just penumbral and occurs opposite the sunset when the sky is still bright and the moon is just rising.
